The proposed building (known within the concept plan for Central Park as ‘Block 4S’) sits alongside the Foster + Partners-designed commercial campus and behind the heritage Brewery Yard building.
This proposal introduces 688 apartments specifically designed for students with a mix of independent studios and multi-share apartments, with extensive communal living and recreation areas. The ground floor is designed with retail shop fronts to ensure activity at street level, uplifting Abercrombie Street’s eastern edge and activating Central Park Avenue and the future Brewery Yard precinct. The proposed building is set back from the street to allow a wider footpath, planted with a line of street trees.
The student dwellings will be owned and operated by a specialist student housing provider and the majority of these dwellings will be managed under the Federal Government’s National Rental Affordability Scheme.
Foster + Partners' local collaborating architect is Nettletontribe.
The concept plan (or 'masterplan') for Central Park was approved by the Department of Planning in 2009, and the building heights and envelope proposed within this Project Application are consistent with the approved concept plan. You can view the plans and provide feedback right here.
